Today, my family and I say good-bye to 2 old friends.





Nifty was 28 years old. She was 78% foundation bred Quarterhorse and was an incredible being. She was given to us by a couple, friends of my parents whom knew she was getting along in years and they wished for her to live out her days in peace and comfort. She'd been on this farm for over 12 years. She was incredible. Never have I ever come across a horse so loving of it's human and so trustworthy that I could allow my daughter to roam around her legs without fear of her being trampled on. Nifty was like that. She was everyone's mother. Every time a foal was born, she watched over it as though it were her own. She was a resident baby-sitter for every baby animal, and not just horses. I loved her, my family loved her. And she will be greatly missed.

Pixie was 16 years old. She was a Quarterhorse and one horse you know you'll never forget. She was stubborn but fair. She enjoyed your company but never let you forget that when she was ready to be let out, you had better let her out. She knew she was in charge. In the herd, it was her way or no way. When a couple of younglings would fight, she was there to break it up. If her rider fell from her back, she would stop and wait for you. She was queen and she knew it. I loved her, my family loved her. And she too, will be greatly missed.
